It has tied the release of cooperation funds to Tunisia to the country’s efforts to curb illegal migration from its coasts to Italy. The move is expected to curb migration waves.
Foreign Minister of Italy Luigi Di Maio took up the issue of illegal migration with Tunisian President Kais Saied during a visit to Tunis last month. According to Minister Maio, the measures have already started yielding results and Italy has not reported any arrival of migrants from Tunisia since his last visit to Tunisia.
