Israel-Morocco to sign economic and commercial cooperation

Israeli economy minister Orna Barbivai is scheduled to arrive in Morocco next week. An economic and commercial cooperation accord between the two countries to promote trade relations between the two nations will be signed during her visit. According to a statement released by the Israeli Ministry, Mrs. Barbivai will have meetings with government officials and business leaders in Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech.

After the normalization of diplomatic ties between Morocco and Israel in 2020 supported by the US-brokered Abraham Accords, there have been specific attempts to promote bilateral ties by way of high level official talks and exchange of delegations. Direct flights between the two countries were also launched. Potential areas for partnerships were identified in agriculture, water treatment, smart technologies, cyber security, defence, digital health systems, smart cities and renewable energies.

At the private sector level, Morocco’s Employers’ Union (Conféderation Générale des Entreprises du Maroc/CGEM) and the Israeli Employers and Business Organizations (IEBO) have signed a strategic partnership to strengthen interaction between the two countries’ business communities in import & export, research & development, innovation and technology. The CGEM and IEBO have jointly set up a business council to promote business cooperation through the exchange of trade missions, B2B meetings and the establishment of joint ventures.
