Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, outlined his vision for the Global South on Wednesday after talks with his Mauritian counterpart, Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
Prime Minister Modi said Global South should look beyond the sea, look towards the ocean, which meant mutual and holistic advancement, for security and growth across regions. Trade and development, capacity building for sustainable growth, and the feeling of mutual security for shared future are imbibed within this.
The two leaders at Port Louis witnessed the signing of several key agreements, which provide for cooperation in areas such as maritime security, trade in national currencies, and capacity building.

His visit comes days after US President Donald Trump said he would support a deal between Mauritius and Britain over the future of a joint US-British military base in the Chagos islands. New Delhi has historically backed Mauritius’ claims over the Indian Ocean archipelago.
