India and Russia are exploring to activate joint projects in Africa in digital technologies space to increase the footprint of both
countries in the African region, which is presently lagging behind countries like China, the US and EU. In the process, the two countries together would create an enabling situation for proliferation of startups and venture funds to promote digital technologies in the continent.

These road map for Russia –India joint ventures in Africa cropped up at a conference jointly organized by the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), a government run think tank.

It may be noted that both Russia and India have only limited exposure in Africa as compared to China, which is present in almost all sectors across infrastructure, port construction and handling, mining and power. Of late, Russia has shown interest in investing in Africa in sectors like railways, aviation etc. India on the other hand, has been trying to make its presence felt through undertaking projects in segments like IT, skill development etc. Joining both countries in taking up projects in Africa can help combine Russian technology and skilled manpower  of India.
