There have been ongoing political efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan was in China for a state visit in November 2022 when President Xi Jinping and President Hassan jointly announced the upgradation of the bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Both leaders also agreed to sustain the momentum of high-level exchanges and communication between the countries. They also agree to boost bilateral trade and cooperation, development of the Belt and Road, and partnership on infrastructure projects.  Industrial capacity cooperation and mutually beneficial cooperation in the areas of manufacturing, green development, and the digital economy are other sectors identified for close cooperation.
