Hotels in Red Sea’s Hurghada city are slowly getting back to business. They are expecting high occupancy rates of over 85% during the Muslim Eid Al-Adha holiday falling on 31 August. This is the estimate of the Egyptian Hotels Association (EHA). The current occupancy rates at most Red Sea hotels range between 80% and 100% at weekends. The median rate of occupancy is 85%.

However, the Association pointed out that most of the occupants are local people, mostly businessmen visiting the area for  ransacting business deals. Hotels, which are re-opening, will have to follow the healthcare safety standards laid down by the government. Close to 192 hotels in the Red sea area have got government’s health certification.  The Egyptian government follows the World Health Organization (WHO) standards and the hotels are also required to follow such standards.

Though Egypt suspended inbound and outbound international flights at all its airports on 19 March to curb the spread of COVID-19, three governorates’ airports  resumed operations. These  egions have the lowest number of coronavirus infections as of 1 July, such as  South Sinai, the Red Sea, and Matrouh.
