A German based shipping company Hapag-Lloyd, has opened a new office in Kenya. The main business of the shipping company will be managed from the port city of Mombasa. Besides, the company will have an office in the capital city Nairobi, .
Hapag-Lloyd mainly deals in export of tea, coffee, fruits and textiles. It imports into the East African country goods, such as chemicals, foodstuffs and a wide range of goods made of plastic or rubber. The shipping line will have 26 staff members; of that 19 staff members will work in Mombasa, 6 in Nairobi and 1 in Uganda.
The shipping company offers two different services viz, China Kenya Express Service (CKX) that connects Kenya with some of the most important ports in Asia, such as Singapore and Shanghai and the East Africa Service (EAS2), which connects Kenya with the west coast of India and Jebel Ali in Dubai.
The shipping line serves the landlocked African countries including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan through the port in Mombasa. The company is trying to penetrate into regions like Somalia, Southern Ethiopia and Northern Tanzania.
German Ambassador to Kenya Annett Günther wished Hapag-Lloyd all the best with their new presence in Kenya. Hapag-Lloyd has been serving the region for many years. The new office, said, augured well for the business community in Kenya, particularly those who are operating from Mombasa and Nairobi. Hapag-Lloyd now has five offices on the ontinent vizSouth Africa, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya. The shipping company recently opened its Quality Service Center in Mauritius.
