As Haiti is facing a security and political crisis, its prime minister Ariel Henry is in Kenya to discuss a controversial troop deployment plan. In Kenya, the visiting Prime Minister reiterated the country’s resolution to hold an election and have a democratic governance structure. The Caribbean country has no elected government.

While addressing a select group of people at a lecture, Ariel Henry reiterated his 2021 pledge to organize elections and added that because of violence and lack of law and order, the country could not hold any elections and a vibrant democracy, which would motivate investors from abroad to come and invest. Kenyan President William Ruto announced recently that both countries signed an agreement on the deployment of 1,000 Kenyan police officers as a part of the October agreement with the UN to have an international force in Haiti. However, the Kenyan High Court ruled the plan unconstitutional because there was a lack of reciprocal agreements between the two countries.
