The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa-Southern Africa Regional Office (Uneca-Saro) has urged Malawi member States to adopt green industrialisation, to prevent externalising individual country challenges.
Addressing the virtual Inter-Governmental Committee of Senior Government Officials and Experts (ICSOE) in Maputo, Mozambique, Uneca-Saro acting executive secretary Antonio Pedro stated that green industrialisation is the solution to unemployment and underdevelopment in the Southern African region. He added that green industrialisation could be achieved through robust infrastructure development such as ports, interlinked highways, and feeder roads.
Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs deputy director of economic affairs Rhino Mchenga said that the region still has not fully recovered from the effects of Covid-19. The ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict continues to stifle the growth prospects in the region.
28th ICSOE Forum provided a robust platform on green industrialisation and came up with recommendations for a road map that can be individually and collectively taken forward.
