Zambian Minister of Mines and Mineral Development Paul Kabuswe said that his country was leveraging its vast mineral wealth for development works. As a part of this, the government has started an electric vehicle battery manufacturing program with neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) under the private and public partnership arrangement.
Mr Kabuswe stated that the government has already made strides to work with its neighbours for maximum benefits from the minerals. This could lead to a win-win situation for every country in the continent.
While addressing a Ministerial symposium preceding the opening of the Annual Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa, Kabuswe said Zambia is negotiating with its neighbours for exploiting the mineral wealth. For a proper matrix of exploitation of minerals, there should be a truce and greater understanding between the investor and the partner country. Benefits should flow both ways and not in a unilateral direction.
