The inaugural edition of the Glovo Academy has been launched in Uganda, aiming to equip local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with essential operational, digital, and financial skills to thrive in an increasingly competitive digital economy. The program is designed to bridge the gap between traditional business practices and the demands of a modern, on-demand marketplace.

The Academy delivered a series of practical workshops and seminars focused on actionable improvements, providing SMEs with tools and insights to scale efficiently. Key training areas included:

  • Digital Marketing: Empowering participants to leverage digital platforms for effective food marketing and broader customer reach.
  • Operational Efficiency: Sharing best practices to reduce preparation times, manage costs, and streamline kitchen-to-customer workflows.
  • Technology Mastery: Hands-on training on Glovo’s digital tools, including Sunmi device operations and accurate order and delivery tracking.
  • Financial Literacy: Emphasising strategic financial planning, budgeting, and data-driven decision-making to secure long-term profitability.

Denis Duke Wonaila from Sungura House highlighted the program’s immediate impact, stating, “The most valuable part of the Academy was realising that we are not operating in silos. We now have a clear strategy to reduce preparation times and better manage costs, which is crucial for survival and growth in this economy.”

Ivy Maingi, General Manager of Glovo Uganda, shared the vision behind the Academy:
“Launching the first-ever Glovo Academy in Uganda reflects our commitment to supporting this market. Ugandan entrepreneurs are resilient, and our goal is to bridge the gap between traditional business models and the digital economy. By providing these essential tools and insights, we are not just facilitating deliveries; we are empowering SMEs to scale efficiently and compete at a world-class level.”

Maingi also emphasized that the program goes beyond operational gains, teaching participants to analyze customer behavior, design effective promotions, and plan for sustainable growth. The inaugural cohort also fostered collaboration, encouraging innovation in the local food sector. Networking sessions enabled restaurant owners and industry experts to share experiences, exchange ideas, and co-develop solutions to common challenges, strengthening community ties.
