GIZ Tunisia, Société Tunisienne de Banque (STB), and Tunisian Foreign Bank (TFBank) have officially entered into a partnership agreement to promote TUNICASH, a new system for cross-border transfers and savings aimed at the Tunisian diaspora.

This initiative is part of the broader project titled “Promotion of Financial and Socio-Economic Inclusion in Tunisia – IFSE-EDMEJ-GIZ”, which is co-funded by the European Union and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and executed by GIZ. The main goal is to enhance access to innovative financial tools for returning Tunisians and local communities, with a special focus on women and youth.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Dr. Ariane Borgstedt, GIZ’s Regional Director for Tunisia and Libya, Rachid Batita, Director General of STB, and Walid Wahabi, Business Development and Communication Director at TFBank.

TUNICASH, developed through a unique collaboration with a Franco-Tunisian fintech company, enables the Tunisian diaspora in France to send money instantly, securely, and affordably to Tunisia. The platform is designed to encourage diaspora savings, formalise remittances, reduce reliance on informal channels, and drive greater financial inclusion across communities in Tunisia.

Rachid Batita highlighted the importance of this agreement in extending financial services to underserved regions, emphasising how it aligns with STB’s mission as a public, civic-minded bank. He noted that the partnership also provides TFBank an opportunity to expand its client base and boost profitability while maintaining its commitment to serving the Tunisian community in France. Walid Wahabi added that this three-way collaboration aims not only to promote TUNICASH as a money transfer tool but to continually enhance its features, ultimately transforming it into a platform that supports investment and socioeconomic development.

As the leading bank for Tunisians living abroad in France, TFBank recognises the shifting landscape of digital finance and is committed to ongoing innovation to meet the evolving needs of its customers in both France and Tunisia.

To further encourage the use of secure and digital remittance channels, the EDMEJ-GIZ project will soon launch a Digital Finance Awareness Caravan, which will tour various regions in Tunisia. This campaign will highlight inclusive, accessible financial services—like TUNICASH—that enable fast, secure, and low-cost cross-border transfers. Targeting both the diaspora and local beneficiaries, the caravan will also promote awareness about the potential of digital finance tools, including crowdfunding, venture capital, and private equity, often facilitated by local FinTech companies.

As a central player in this effort, TUNICASH will play an active role in the caravan, helping drive adoption of digital financial services among its key audiences. This aligns with broader efforts to strengthen financial inclusion and harness diaspora contributions for local economic development. This partnership represents a significant step forward in leveraging diaspora remittances to boost sustainable financial inclusion, investment, and savings, ultimately supporting Tunisia’s economic growth.
