The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has launched a groundbreaking digital verification platform, the ReVEO App, designed to combat the increasing prevalence of counterfeit electrical cables and restore consumer trust in the Ghanaian market.
Developed under the Digital Conformity Assessment Project, the ReVEO App allows consumers, retailers, and electricians to verify the authenticity of electrical cables by simply scanning a QR code on the product. The innovation aims to promote fair competition, enhance product traceability, and ensure transparency across the country’s electrical goods supply chain.
Speaking at a sensitisation workshop in Kumasi, Ing. Francis Mensah Akpaloo, Project Coordinator for the initiative, described the app as a major milestone in consumer empowerment and market regulation.“We are introducing a technology-driven solution that enables instant product authentication before purchase,” Ing. Akpaloo noted. “The app is currently being piloted with six leading cable manufacturers, including Nexans Kabelmetal, Tropical Cable, African Diamond Cables, Reroy Cable, and Fenice Metal.”
The launch comes amid growing concerns over the proliferation of fake and substandard electrical cables, which industry experts have linked to numerous fire incidents and electrical faults causing significant property damage nationwide. Through the ReVEO App, users can access verified information on a product’s origin, certification status, and distribution trail—helping to eliminate counterfeit goods and enforce compliance with national safety standards.
Currently, the ReVEO App focuses on electrical cables, but the GSA intends to extend the digital verification system to other regulated goods, such as electrical appliances and construction materials, as part of its broader digitalisation strategy.

The sensitisation programme in Kumasi brought together stakeholders from cable manufacturing companies, retail outlets, and construction firms, who praised the initiative and called for stronger public education to encourage adoption. Many participants expressed optimism that the ReVEO App will help safeguard consumers from unsafe products, reduce fire-related risks, and foster a more transparent and competitive marketplace. The GSA has announced plans for a nationwide rollout of the ReVEO App by January 2026, marking another key step in its ongoing mission to digitise product quality assurance and strengthen market confidence in Ghana.
