Ghana’s robust COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues got a boost as the west African country continues to get some accommodation through the COVAX Facility. Ghana has got more than 2 million doses of AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccines from the Governments of Germany, Denmark, Iceland, Norway.   Germany contributed the largest single consignment of over 1.5 million doses.

Ghana has been receiving steady support from its partners for the vaccination efforts. In a short ceremony that took place recently while handing over the German consignment of vaccines to Ghana’s health ministry officials, German Ambassador to Ghana, Daniel Krull, referred to the contribution his Government had made to Ghana’s fight against the pandemic. Germany had given  bilateral support to Ghana valued  25 million Euros.

Incidentally, Ghana has taken delivery of an additional 1.3 million doses of Pfizer vaccines donated by the United States.  The shipment was the  first Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to hit the shores of Ghana.  US Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie Sullivan was hopeful that the 2.5 million vaccine doses donated to date by the United States would help protect Ghanaians from serious illness. She also pledged the support of her county working with Ghana to stop the spread of COVID-19 and further push the vaccination rate to the global target of 10% of the population
