The Nigerian Federal Government said that the current trade dispute between Nigeria and Ghana was part of issues, which were addressed at the two-day National Consultation Workshop on ECOWAS Post-2020 Vision held at Abuja. Everything possible was being done to alleviate the plight of Nigerian traders in Ghana, as it called for calm on the grounds that the issue was being addressed, the government sources said.
Nigeria’s views were articulated by David Adeosun, Director, Macroeconomic Analysis, Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget & National Planning would represent the country at ECOWAS. Ghanaian officials have sealed off the shops belonging to Nigerian traders in Accra for failing to have the US$ 1 million equity as stipulated by the Ghana
Investment Promotion Council. Nigeria is threatening retaliatory action on the Ghanaian businesses operating in Nigeria. It also stated that the issue would be taken up at the ECOWAS if the action by Ghana has breached the existing protocols.
