In a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Austrian President, Alexander Van der Bellen stated that Ghana has emerged as the most important destination in Africa for Austria and Austrian businesses. Austrian President added that growth of the Ghanaian economy, especially over the last two years, emerging as the fastest growing economy in the world in 2019, has encouraged Austrian investors to look at Ghana for business opportunities. President Akufo-Addo, who was in Austria to participate in the R20 Austrian World Summit on Climate Change, invited Austrian investment in clean energy in Ghana and assured that Ghana was fully committed to tackling the climate change phenomenon. R20 Austrian World Summit – is an initiative to support regions, countries and cities to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to enable them to meet the global climate protection targets outlined in the Paris Agreement. Underlining the significance of fighting climate change collectively he pointed out that climate change can undermine the realisation of Sustainable Development Goals(SDG).“It is in own interest to act to salvage the economic fortunes of the continent, and, more so, step up our collective efforts to fight decisively climate change,” he added.He also called for support to fight against terrorism. The Austrian Federal Army imparts training to the Ghana Armed Forces on “Combat Dog Training”. Under this co-operation agreement, Austria will set up a regional training centre in Ghana.
