The agreement for developing the Green Hydrogen Project was signed between Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) and the German Development Bank (KFW), which provided the money.
Mozambique’s and Germany’s governments signed a €500,000 financing agreement on Friday in Maputo to develop the Green Hydrogen Project in the African country. The project aims to diversify Mozambique’s energy matrix.
The promotion of green hydrogen in Mozambique can help diversify the energy supply, create job opportunities and boost the development of industries and infrastructure for the Mozambican people, said Ronald Munch, Germany’s ambassador to Mozambique, quoted in a joint statement.
The agreement for developing the Green Hydrogen Project was signed between Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) and the German Development Bank (KFW), which provided the money.
For the German ambassador, Mozambique has abundant natural resources, including water, solar and wind energy, which provide “good conditions” for the production of green hydrogen, in a project for which an international tender will be launched.

The € 500,000 will be used to hire specialised consultants to conduct market studies for green hydrogen initiatives. Green hydrogen is considered a “fundamental” natural energy resource in the process of diversifying Mozambique’s energy matrix.
