Germany has promised to give all necessary support to the peace and mediation efforts to end the war waged in the northern part of the country. Ethiopia has been reaffirming its openness for peace talks without preconditions to end the war with TPLF. Opening the second joint session of the House of Peoples Representatives and the House of Federation, President Sahle Work Zewdie had stated that the government is determined to end the war in the north through peaceful talks.
Welcoming the move for peace talks between the warring factions, Germany’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Stephan Auer said that Ethiopia should be an anchor of regional stability. Commenting on the president’s speech, Ambassador Auer said that Germany is committed to supporting the efforts of the Ethiopian government to find a political solution to the conflict and restore peace in the region under African Union (AU) mediation efforts. He added that Germany believed that Ethiopia had the potential to play a key role in the Horn of Africa and urged the country to solve its problem through dialogue.
Germany is also ready to re-engage with Ethiopia and support the political as well as the economic reform agenda of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the Ambassador said.
