·       American company GE Renewable Energy has signed a contract with Energie Eolienne du Maroc (EEM) the subsidiary of the Nareva Group for providing 40 onshore wind turbines.

·       The wind turbines are meant for the Aftissat project, a 200 MW wind farm located in Western Sahara.

The wind turbines are meant for the Aftissat project, a 200 MW wind farm located in Western Sahara. EEM will operate and maintain the turbines under a 20-year maintenance agreement. The project the second wind farm developed by GE Renewable Energy in Morocco is expected to commence operations in 2023. Akhfenir wind farm was the first project that GE and Nareva jointly erected in 2016.

In a press release issued on the deal, GE Renewable Energy stated that Morocco had great potential for wind power. Morocco targets achieving 52% of renewable energy by 2030 and has been investing heavily in the sector since 2009. The press release also noted the deal was the first order for GE’s Cypress onshore wind platform in Morocco.
