Garment Exports from Egypt increased by 6%

The EU is the second largest market for Egyptian ready-made garments. The exports increased by 6% to a record USD 467m in the period from January to November 2023, compared to USD 439m in the same period of 2022.

The garment sector’s exports from Egypt amounted to USD 2.2 billion from January to November 2023 riding on the back of the sector’s exports to the European Union.  The EU is the second largest market for Egyptian ready-made garments. The exports increased by 6% to a record USD 467m in the period from January to November 2023, compared to USD 439m in the same period of 2022.

This encouraging data on garment exports was revealed by the President of the Egyptian Apparel Export Council, Marie Louis Bishara. Giving the country-wise data, the association chief said that Spain was the top European importer of clothing, with a value of USD 116m in the first 11 months of 2023, compared to USD 87m in the same period of 2022, registering an increase of 33%. The sector’s exports to the Netherlands also increased by 5% to record USD 62m during the period from January to November 2023, compared to USD 59m during the same period in 2022, while exports to Turkey jumped to USD 215m from USD 140m, an increase of 54%.

Exports to Arab countries also witnessed a noticeable increase, with Saudi Arabia leading the list, recording a 68% increase to reach USD 89m in the period from January to November 2023, compared to USD 53m. Additionally, exports to Libya also increased to a record USD 60m from USD 33m, an increase of 82%.
