The Gambian government signed a contract with BP to explore oil and gas off its coast. The government of President Adama Barrow is trying to build up Gambia’s oil and gas sector for reviving the economy gutted by more than two decades of autocratic rule under former President Yahya Jammeh. Barrow’s office said he had met BP representatives at the presidential palace; but refused to divulge further details. Experts are of the opinion that the Gambian government did the right thing by signing a new deal with BP. This they feel that can help the country increase its oil production by several notches.
