The presidential election in the Gambia the West African nation with a population of 2 million people, will take place on December 4th. Six candidates are participating in the presidential election.
Saturday’s election will be the first one since former president Yahya Jammeh Jammeh was ousted from power. He seized power in 1994 in a bloodless coup and was later defeated in elections in 2016 after opposition parties created a coalition with Barrow as the main candidate. Later he fled the country, refusing to accept his electoral defeat.
Gambian President Adama Barrow, is also in the race, running for a second term in office and urged Gambians to participate in the voting. Barrow’s main election rival is Ousainou Darboe the head of the United Democratic Party who has promised to bring a new era for the Gambia.
