Gabon is undergoing a major digital transformation, adopting advanced technology to modernize its public services and improve key urban infrastructure. This effort seeks to strengthen the country’s position as a leader in e-governance.
Jonathan Ignoumba, Gabon’s Minister of Transport and Merchant Marine, signed a memorandum of understanding with DSD, a digitalisation company. The initiative aims to modernise transport-related documents such as driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations while enhancing Libreville’s infrastructure with innovations like rotating parking systems and smart traffic lights.
DSD’s CEO, Djemory Doumbouya, stated that the company, already active in Guinea, Uganda, and Liberia, will swiftly mobilize resources to conduct feasibility studies. He added that after the signing, they will develop a business plan, establish an implementation timeline, and submit these details for approval before finalizing the contract.
The project supports Gabon Digital, a government initiative launched in November, aimed at modernising public services and simplifying administrative procedures. A digital platform will be introduced later this year to assist in these efforts.

The project could greatly enhance traffic management in Libreville, which has nearly one million residents, or half of Gabon’s population. The city, facing increasing traffic congestion, would benefit from smart mobility solutions to alleviate traffic jams, improve road safety, and make better use of urban space.
The digitalisation of transport documents is also expected to bring several advantages, including reduced fraud, improved data traceability, simplified processes for citizens, and greater efficiency in managing public infrastructure.
