
Subsequent to its partnership agreement with the French company Engie, through its subsidiary Ausar Energy, Gabon has announced tenders to build eight solar power plants. Construction work on eight solar power plants will be spread over three provinces of the country. According to the agreement, the plants will have to be ready by September 2019. The estimated cost of the project is about 6 million euros. Call for tenders was also issued to local companies on April 26, 2019, for the development of the land.
The completion of these plants with a combined capacity of 2.8 MW, is expected to save Gabon nearly one million liters of fuel oil per year and provide access to electricity for 100,000 households. It is reported that about 350,000 Gabonese still have no access to electricity. It is also hoped that it will reduce pollution , and the national carbon footprint. The country targets to cut down its greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2025,in line with the commitments made in 2015.
