French investments in Egypt increase; bilateral trade drops

French investments in Egypt increased 17.9 percent during the fiscal year 2019 -20,  says Egypt’s the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics. The value of French investments in Egypt recorded US$349 million during the 2019-20, compared to US$296.1 million during the 2018-2019.

Bilateral trade between Egypt and France recorded US$2.2 billion in 2020, compared to US2.4 billion in 2019, registering a decline of 6.9 percent. The Egyptian exports to France also dropped  to US$530.5 million in 2020, as against  US$654.3 million in 2019, registering a significant decrease of 18.9 percent.

The Egyptian imports from France recorded US$1.70 billion during 2020 compared to US$ 1.75 billion in 2019, a drop of 2.4 percent. The decrease is attributed to the pandemic that affected global trade. Egypt’s exports to France was mostly machinery and electrical appliances, while Egypt I exported  US$ 138.2 million.
