A thirty-member French business delegation led by the French Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness, Franck Riester was in Rwanda on October 27 to explore business partnerships and investment possibilities in Rwanda. The visit is happening after five months after the historical visit of President Emmanuel Macron.

Reister stated that the French companies are keen for a long-term investment in the country particularly in sectors such as health, sustainable city, transport, construction, environment, agro-industry and agri-food industry. He called for closer ties between private sectors, companies, and people-to-people.

The delegation met Rwanda’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Beata Habyarimana along with other players in the private sector. Habyaramina informed the delegation, that the government of Rwanda has improved its Doing Business index and launched comprehensive business reforms. This, she said, has improved the business environment.

Rwanda and France opened a new chapter in their bilateral relations after two decades of lukewarm relations. The relations between the two countries soured due to the role of France in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The visit by French President Emmanuel Macron, when he sought forgiveness from survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, softened the ties.
