Deputy Prime Minister of Italy Luigi Di Maio accused that France’s Africa policies were responsible for poverty in Africa that triggered continuous migration from the continent. As per The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) data, 4,216 migrants have crossed to Europe by the sea in the first 16 days of 2019. He urged the European Union to impose sanctions on France saying Paris had “never stopped colonizing tens of African states”.
According to him, France manipulated the economies of African countries that use the CFA franc, a colonial-era currency supported by the French treasury. However, France has always refuted the blame saying that the CFA franc has brought monetary stability to the countries that use it.
