Former President of Niger Mahamadou Issoufou is the new mediator for Burkina Faso. He was appointed recently at the end of the 6th extraordinary summit of ECOWAS held in Accra, the capital of Ghana.

The former president’s mission is to facilitate dialogue between all stakeholders. What stands against the resolution of the contentious issues is the duration of the transition period in Burkina Faso. It is currently set at 36 months by the Burkinabe military leadership.
