FNB Namibia Supports Global Forum to Advance Financial Inclusion in Africa

(3 Minutes Read)

FNB Namibia has announced its sponsorship of the upcoming Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) Global Policy Forum, which will take place from September 2–5 in Swakopmund. Co-hosted with the Bank of Namibia, the event marks the first time the AFI summit will be held in sub-Saharan Africa, drawing over 700 global financial policymakers and experts.

Under the theme “Empowering Society, Enabling Growth,” the forum aims to address barriers to inclusive finance—especially for underserved populations—through dialogue on topics like digitalisation, financial literacy, and regulatory innovation. AFI, a network of 84 countries, has supported the rollout of over 1,130 inclusive financial policies benefitting 850 million people worldwide.

FNB Namibia sees its sponsorship as part of a broader commitment to social investment and equitable access to financial services. Communications manager Kirsty Watermeyer emphasized that inclusion is central to both business strategy and national development, stating, “This is not just about better banking—it’s about a better Namibia.”

Namibia aims to achieve 95% financial inclusion by 2035, guided by the Financial Sector Transformation Strategy launched in July 2025. This includes promoting mobile banking, removing cash deposit fees, and improving financial education, especially in rural areas. The forum offers Namibia a platform to showcase its progress, share challenges, and learn from international best practices to ensure no citizen is left behind in the financial system.
