South Sudanese is in turmoil triggered by not alone the turbulence but also natural calamities like flood. According to the UN, over 288,000 residents and refugees have been affected in Sudan where heavy rains and flash floods have hit 13 of the 18 states. There is the need for heavy humanitarian works where thousands of refugees were relocated to different camps, while others took shelter in villages spared by the flood. Torrential rains happen in the impoverished country every year between June and October.
Severe flooding leads to heavy losses in terms of human lives, livestock losses and economic deprivation. The sudden flood had left 140 people dead and 900,000 affected. So far this year, the floods have killed more than 80 people nationwide and damaged or destroyed around 35,000 homes. Outbreak of diseases after the flood is also expected, where authorities face huge healthcare gaps and resource crunch.
The government is very much dependent on the multilateral agencies and aid organizations to extend the right type of support to the country.
