Flash floods affected the area of Keur Massar in the outskirts of the Senegalese capital, Dakar in the past week, caused by a heavy downpour. This flood is affecting local families and destruction of properties and crops. Many people are leaving the affected areas and relocating themselves to safer places. Many people are stuck in their home and are waiting for the situation to improve. Some people complain that they cannot connect to other family members or even seek help because of disruptions in communication systems. The situation seems to be getting worse since there is no respite from the downpour.
There are no reports about the intensity of the rehabilitation works undertaken by various agencies. Livelihood of many poor people living in the locality has been affected. They need help both for ensuring food, taking care of health against possible epidemics and proper shelters to protect them from the downpour.
Analysts say the downpour is likely to last for some more days since the winter season has just begun. This will set in inclement weather for people who do not have proper dresses to protect them. On the top of it, the Covid-19 had its toll on employment and daily livelihood of the people.
