Agriculture, the mainstay of the Ethiopian economy is poised to get a boost. FAO and Ethiopia’s agricultural institutions plan to jointly launch a network of in-country innovation hubs in Ethiopia. The move announced by FAO is expected to support farmers and value chain actors.

The initiative falls under the program of Global Network of Digital Agriculture Innovation Hubs, funded by the Flexible Multi-Partner Mechanism (FMM). The objective of the subprogram is to promote and strengthen the development of digital innovation in the agri-food sector. It has a special focus on youth and women, and seeks to increase their skills and competitiveness, FAO statement said. It further added that country teams will be assessing the state of the digital development and capacities of partners, such as government institutions, academia, NGOs, and the private sector.
