The 78 years old ex-PM was being treated at the American Hospital in the Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine after contracting the disease in Ivory Coast. A member of the Ivoirian Democratic Party (PDCI), French-educated banker Konan Banny was prime minister from December 2005 under a UN resolution until April 2007. In 2011, he also headed the Commission for Dialogue, Truth, and Reconciliation after an electoral crisis that left 3,000 people dead. He joined the presidential race in 2015 and lost to the current incumbent Alassane Ouattara.
Paying tribute to Mr Konan Banny, President Alassane Ouattara praised his predecessor’s significant contributions to national reconciliation. Another former prime minister, Guillaume Soro, who is currently in exile was quoted saying that Banny was instrumental in changing his perception of Ivorian politics.
