A 44.7 million Euros financing agreement has been announced for Ghana by the European Union (EU). It has also launched the new programming priorities in Ghana for the next six years. The financing agreement is expected to be signed soon by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, and the EU.
The announcement came as part of the two-day visit of the EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, Ms Jutta Urpilainen  to Ghana from March 30-31. She called on the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, and discussed avenues for a stronger EU-Ghana partnership to sustain and stimulate green growth and job creation in Ghana.
The impact of the Ukraine  war on geopolitics and global commodity prices, the regional security situation in West Africa and Sahel region, EU’s new Global Gateway strategy and several flagship programmes, such as the Global Green Bond Initiative and the Africa-EU Green Energy Initiative also were covered in the discussions.
An EU statement said that health and vaccines were key shared priorities between EU and Ghana. The commissioner visited the laboratories of the Food and Drug Authority (FDA), which regulates local manufacturing of vaccines and is supported by the EU.
