Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is set to arrive in Turkey on Wednesday 18th, August at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan according to state-run Turkish news agency Anadolu. Turkey’s Directorate of Communications stated that PM Abiy’s visit coincides with the 125th year of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Turkey. An official statement from Addis Ababa on the visit is awaited.
During the visit, both sides will review bilateral ties and explore the possibilities of enhancing cooperation between them. Current regional and international developments will also be part of the agenda for discussion.
During Abiy’s visit to Turkey, US president Joe Biden’s envoy, Jeffrey Feltman, is in Addis to push for dialogue between Ethiopia and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). Feltman reportedly met with Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen .
