Ethiopia, a global powerhouse in coffee production, is celebrated for its distinctive and flavorful Arabica beans. The majority of Ethiopia’s coffee exports find their way to countries including the United States, Japan, Belgium, Germany, and Saudi Arabia.

Ethiopia’s annual coffee production doubled from 500,000 tonnes to over 1 million tonnes in the last five years, said the country’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at a national coffee exhibition and awareness forum in Addis Ababa. He added that Ethiopia’s coffee exports reached a record high of over USD 1.4 billion in the last fiscal year.

The head of the government reiterated the government’s commitment to improving coffee quality and production in Ethiopia. He emphasized the importance of working with farmers, cooperatives, and communities to promote best practices and raise awareness.

Abiy Ahmed highlighted the importance of continued efforts to improve coffee quality and access to markets, to generate approximately USD 2 billion in coffee revenue during this Ethiopian fiscal year. The Ethiopian prime minister encouraged local farmers to boost productivity, adding that the contribution of small farmers is also important to the national coffee industry.
