The state-run utility firm Ethiopian Electric Utility and four international companies’ have signed contracts to electrify 25 rural towns with a Solar Off-Grid system. The international companies include three Chinese and one Korean company.
The project cost of 20 Million US Dollars is funded by African Development Bank and an additional 161 Million Birr from the Ethiopian government. According to the agreement, the companies will complete the projects that will generate 8 megawatts of electric power within 6 months. It is expected that after completion, more than 145, 169 people will get electric access in the rural towns located in Afar, Amhara, Benishangul-Gumuz, Gambella, Oromia, SNNP, and Somalia regions.
