Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) announced that it generated 13,504.2 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity in the first half of the 2024-25 fiscal year, surpassing its target by 15.6%.

According to Tiruwork Shiferaw, Manager of the Planning Office in EEP’s Power Generation Operations Sector, the increase in power production was largely due to independent maintenance efforts at key power stations. Repairs at the Tekeze and Tis Abay 2 stations, which had turbines shut down due to breakdowns, as well as nozzle tip repairs at the Gilgel Gibe 2 power station, contributed to improved efficiency.
