Andrea Shoes, leather goods Production Company based in Dire Dawa Industrial Park, in Ethiopia has exported its first products to Italy. The debutant export of the company was possible because of its timely investments and better quality control. The company invested
US$750 million on a 5,500 square meter shed in the park. The company started exporting women’s shoes. It has shipped more than 18,600 pairs of shoes to the Ethiopian market.
Export has helped Ethiopia to realize US$ 80.336 million. The company also makes bags. It is chalking out plans to ship bags also to the international market, mainly to Europe. The company, presently, has exports only to Italy and gradually wants to enter other markets in Europe, where there could be a steady market for the leather products. It also has plans to enter North America.
Company’s first round of production has resulted in creation of 229 jobs with 77 men and 152 women employees. In the second phase, there are plans afoot to expand its operations for creating more than 450 additional jobs.
