Ethiopia has obtained US$417 million dollars from coffee export trade in the last four months. This works out to an increase of 134% of its target set for the period.
Ethiopian Coffee & Tea Authority said that it planned to export 92, 107.4 tons of coffee to the international market. The export realization was US$310 million in the first four months of the 2021-22 Fiscal Year.
The country has secured US$417 million revenue after exporting a total of 108,608.0 tons of coffee, achieving 134% and 118% of its the targets set in terms of value and volume, respectively. The volume of coffee exports has grown by 41,352 million tones and the revenue increased by US$ 186.47 million as compared to the same period in the previous year. Germany was a major market for coffee exports during the last four month period.
European Union imported 27.874 million worth US$ 91 million, which accounts for 22% of the total revenue earned by the East African country. The other major importers are Saudi Arabia (15%) and Belgium (10%), which helped the country to get US$53 million and US$ 46 million respectively. The other importing countries were the US, Japan, South Korea, Italy and China.
