Ethiopian and South African Universities to strengthen collaborations

  • Addis Ababa University (AAU) and the Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU), two leading Ethiopian higher education institutions have signed the Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with the University of South Africa (UNISA).

Addis Ababa University (AAU) and the Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU), two leading Ethiopian higher education institutions have signed the Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with the University of South Africa (UNISA). The areas of collaboration under the MOU will cover education, science, and research and also define areas for increased collaboration, scholarship, cooperation, and interaction for further promotion of education, science, and research. The universities will jointly work towards the advancement of national, regional, continental and international interests particularly on advancing the African interest and African Union Agenda 2063.

Founded in 1950, Addis Ababa University is the oldest university in Ethiopia. AASTU, is an Ethiopian higher institute that started functioning in November 2011.UNISA, of South Africa, a leader in comprehensive open distance learning universities has been collaborating with Ethiopian universities in various areas in the recent past. UNISA has supported already the graduation of close to one thousand Ethiopian students, with a high percentage in doctoral degrees. The latest MOU will enhance its footprint in the Ethiopian education sector.
