Ethiopian Airlines’ settlement of compensation with Boeing is
expected by end June this year, after a protracted negotiation. The
compensation is related to the 737 MAX grounding in March 2019
following two fatal crashes.
The Boeing without revealing the type and tenor of the discussions
with the Ethiopian said that it would continue to work for a
reasonable outcome. Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 bound for Kenya
crashed six minutes after take-off killing 157 passengers and crew.
It is important to note that so far Ethiopian has not cancelled a
single flight during the pandemic. The aircraft delivery from Boeing
and Airbus also got delayed due to a variety of reasons. Africa’s
largest airline has made a loss of US$ 550 million between January and
April. However, the airline management said that it would not seek any
bailout from the government.
