- Ethiopian Airlines will be buying five 777-8 Freighters, the industry’s newest, most capable, and most fuel-efficient twin-engine freighter from Boeing.
Ethiopian Airlines had stepped up its air cargo services during the recent years. During the Pandemic, it converted some of its passenger Air crafts to lift Cargo, offsetting its losses in Passenger service. As of now its, air cargo services cover more than 120 international destinations around the world with both belly hold capacity and dedicated Freighter services.
To meet the growing global cargo demand from its hub in Addis Ababa and position the carrier for long-term sustainable growth, the Airlines is adding its Freighter fleet. Ethiopian Airlines will be buying five 777-8 Freighters, the industry’s newest, most capable, and most fuel-efficient twin-engine freighter from Boeing. Both the parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect.
 Boeing has been a long standing partner of the Ethiopian Airlines. It launched the new 777-8 Freighter in January and has already  received several firm orders for the model. Through the addition of the new fleet, Ethiopian Airlines aims to remain a key player in global cargo, providing it with increased capacity and flexibility.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Tewolde Gebremariam said that the new Freighters will strengthen its growth agenda to be the leader in Africa in the Aviation sector. He added that according to Ethiopian Airlines ‘vision 2035’ the Airlines propose to expand its Cargo and Logistics business to be one of the largest global multimodal logistics providers.
The Airlines has also started the construction of the largest E-commerce Hub Terminal in Africa.
