The Ethiopian government has introduced the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy; a comprehensive national plan designed to deepen the use of technology in every major economic sector and accelerate the country’s transition toward a fully digital economy.
According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ethiopian Council of Ministers approved the five-year digital transformation roadmap on Saturday. The initiative is intended to drive economic growth, modernize public services, and ensure that technology becomes a central driver of national development.
Building on the momentum of earlier reforms, the new strategy seeks to strengthen Ethiopia’s technological infrastructure, enhance digital skills, and unlock new socio-economic opportunities—particularly for the nation’s rapidly growing youth population. The plan outlines measures to expand critical digital networks, encourage innovation, and improve efficiency through automation and advanced digital tools.
Digital Ethiopia 2030 succeeds the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy, launched in June 2020. The Ministry of Innovation and Technology recently described the earlier strategy as “100 percent successful,” noting that it laid the groundwork for a knowledge-driven, technology-led digital economy.

Reflecting on this progress, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that the successful completion of the 2025 strategy paved the way for the next phase. The new 2030 roadmap, he emphasized, will further enhance service delivery across government and industry through expanded use of machine-based systems, automation, and modern digital solutions.
