Ethiopia’s Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) is aiming to mobilize US$400 million in exports in the current Ethiopian fiscal year (July 7 2020 to July 7,2021). This according to the corporation will create 45,000 permanent jobs.
The corporation is planning to set up five additional industrial parks during the current fiscal, taking the total number of industrial parks to twelve. The Corporation is working to minimize challenges related to COVID-19, speed up infrastructure developments, and enhance electric power supply to the industrial parks. The corporation also is planning to handover 17 vacant shades in the existing five industrial parks to the investors.
Ethiopia’s industrial parks have generated $165 million exports and created 11,880 jobs. This belied the expectation mainly due to challenges related to the coronavirus pandemic, and frequent power outages.
