Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said that he is open to negotiations with rebel groups in the country, while speaking to the members of parliament recently.
There has been no negotiations so far. He clearly indicated that he was open to talks with the Tigrayan leaders to find a negotiated settlement with a caveat that the discussions would be within the framework of national security and interests.
Ethiopia has been fighting rebels loyal to the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) since November 2020. Among the other problems the country is facing are a border row with Sudan and a dispute with Egypt and Khartoum over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile River.
