Ethiopia’s tourism potential was showcased at the International Mediterranean Tourism Market (IMTM) 2022 exhibition held in Israel on March 29 and 30, 2022.
Inaugurated by Isaac Herzog, President of Israel, the exhibition displayed picturesque images of tourist attractions in various countries. The event was a big draw among the wanderlust in Israel. Outbound tourism is very popular in Israel. A large number of Israelis visit foreign countries every year. A sizable number of tourists visit places, which are culturally close to them or places where they had close affinity such as places where they or their forefathers originally hailed from.
The Ethiopian pavilion at the exhibition was a joint effort of the Ethiopian Embassy in Israel and the Ethiopian Airlines. The pavilion was decked with visual aids, showing various tourist attractions, both tangible and intangible heritages in Ethiopia. Ethiopia is looking at developing Israel as a major hub for inbound tourists. It is making efforts to facilitate tourists from Israel and other countries visiting their country.

Ethiopian tourism is fast catching up in recent years. However, the regional tensions that have been happening in the East African country had grossly affected the foreign tourist flow. Ethiopian authorities are presently working towards changing that negative perception. Apart from bringing foreign exchange, tourism can catalyse domestic economic activities.
