(3 minutes read)

Ethiopia is in talk with other African countries to seek a solution  to its internal conflicts. With this in viewEthiopian Deputy president Sahle Zwede visited Ivory Coast recently and met with President Alassane Ouattara.

While maintaining that the situation in Ethiopia is stabilizing, Sahle said that they would soon have a ‘national dialogue to sort out the contentious issues. There is no external occupation or external aggression so it is a painful episode, she pointed out. She added that  the internal disturbances should not be termed as genocide.  She exuded optimism that the situation was moving towards resolution  and said  the national dialogue would further narrow down the differences and bring stability on a sustainable basis.

The war broke out in November 2020 when Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed  sent troops into Ethiopia’s northernmost region of Tigray to topple the TPLF. There was a year- long violence and tensions with the group that had dominated politics for three decades before he (Abiy) took office. There are claims and counterclaims from the government and opposite camps about their victories in the tension bound region.
