Ethiopia launches portal to promote startups

·        Ethiopia’s Jobs Creation Commission (JCC), in collaboration with MasterCard Foundation and Piazza Communications, has set up a nationwide portal named “Yegara”

Ethiopia’s Jobs Creation Commission (JCC), in collaboration with Master Card Foundation and Piazza Communications, has set up a nationwide portal named “Yegara”. It is aimed at connecting startups with potential investors. Of late, Ethiopia is laying a lot of importance to developing startups. The government is also taking steps for promoting MSMEs set up by the startups.

The Yegara portal  has laid down a mission of providing “ecosystem-focused, and innovative financing service through motivated team and state-of-the-art technology. The portal is in line with its plan and calls on the business ecosystem to provide a thriving and growth-oriented community.

Analysts opine that more such schemes will be launched in the East African country since the new dispensation under prime minister Abiy Ahmed is crafting various schemes for promoting private  sector culture in the country.
