Ethiopia Buys Switchgears for Power Plants from China

Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has signed a framework agreement for the purchase of GIS Switchgears with the Chinese Company TBEA Co., Ltd. The purchase will be worth US$16.4 million.

Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has signed a framework agreement for the purchase of GIS Switchgears with the Chinese Company TBEA Co., Ltd. The purchase will be worth US$16.4 million.

The agreement is for a three-year usage of 15 and 33 kilo-volt GIS switchgear.  The purchase will be used to replace faulty GIS switchgear at various transmission stations. The overall objective of the replacement of the switchgear is to prevent recurrent power outages and to reduce maintenance costs.

The first tranche of purchases will be done over a period of six months. It will target the replacement of eighteen 15KV and twenty-six 33KV GIS switchgear.

Over a period of three years, the framework agreement will replace over sixty-five 15KV and 33KV transmission station GIS switchgear.  The purchase is estimated to cost over US$16.4 million. The entire amount will be paid by EEP, which is a state-owned utility.
